The board supplies the subject expertise behind every editorial decision at Journal of Agronomy Research: it assesses whether a manuscript sits inside the journal's agronomic scope, whether its field design and analysis can support its conclusions, and which independent reviewers are competent to judge it. Every affiliation below is stated as the member's current post, and each name carrying a registry ORCID iD links to that public record.
Published by Open Access Pub, Rancho Cordova, California. Not affiliated with Agronomy Research (ISSN 1406-894X), published by the Estonian University of Life Sciences; no editor listed here holds an appointment on that journal by virtue of this one.

How a manuscript reaches a decision
Five stagesThe board's work sits at stages two, three and four. Manuscripts are assessed for scope, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and research integrity.
Initial assessment
The editorial office checks completeness, scope, declarations and evident integrity or reporting concerns. A manuscript can be declined before external review.
Agronomic assessment by an editor
An editor establishes whether the manuscript addresses a defined crop, soil or production-system question; whether treatments, controls, replication, randomization, blocking and the unit of inference are identifiable and defensible; whether cultivar, site, season, soil, management and material provenance are described sufficiently; and whether the statistical model matches the design.
This is where board expertise is used: an editor who cannot judge those dimensions in the manuscript's subject area is the wrong editor for it.
Reviewer selection
Editors select reviewers for subject and methodological competence after conflict checks. Recent co-authorship, institutional, supervisory, personal and commercial relationships are checked. Author-suggested reviewers are not relied on uncritically, and country, institutional prestige, seniority or expected citation value are not used as proxies for competence.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Recommendation
The handling editor has authority over the editorial recommendation and must base it on the manuscript and relevant expert assessment. Reviewer reports are confidential and advisory; reviewer voting does not determine the outcome.
Decision and appeal
Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit and are independent of fees, waivers, memberships, services and editorial or reviewer roles. Advertising, sponsorship and commercial relationships are kept separate from decisions.
An appeal must identify a substantive error or overlooked evidence and is assigned to a senior, uninvolved editor; disagreement alone does not require a new review.
The full procedure, including screening, revision and post-publication actions, is set out in the editorial policies and the editorial operations handbook.
Appointments and decision authority
Titles apply only where the appointment existsJAR holds 51 current editorial appointments, all at Editorial Board rank. The journal does not present a tier of titles that its appointment record does not contain, and no member on this page should be read as holding decision authority over a manuscript by virtue of appearing on it.
What an appointment carries
- Responsibility
- Provides subject expertise, reviews or handles work when formally assigned, and keeps profile and conflicts current
- Boundary
- Board status alone does not confer decision authority on a manuscript. A person may not exercise multiple roles on the same manuscript where that compromises independence
- Assigned editor
- Carries out the initial assessment, selects reviewers, evaluates revisions and makes the reasoned scholarly recommendation
- Escalation
- Integrity, legal and serious policy concerns are referred, not investigated by an editor alone
What an appointment does not carry
- Charges
- Editors do not negotiate article processing charges, and financial support requests are handled outside the editorial assessment
- Outcomes
- Editors do not promise acceptance, timing, visibility or citations, and do not request citations for personal benefit
- Own work
- An editor's own submission is reassigned; see conflicts of interest below
- Confidential files
- Manuscripts, review reports and unpublished data are not used outside the authorized workflow or uploaded to unauthorized external AI systems
Conflicts of interest and recusal
Recusal is mandatoryAuthors, reviewers and editors disclose financial and non-financial interests that could reasonably be perceived to influence the work. In agronomy that includes relationships with seed, pesticide, fertilizer, biological-input, equipment and data-platform companies, which must be declared.
An editor recuses when
- The editor is an author or close collaborator.
- The manuscript comes from the editor's institution or presents a direct professional conflict.
- A financial or advisory relationship involves a product, company or intervention studied.
- Personal competition, dispute or advocacy could affect impartiality.
- The editor has accessed or used the work outside the editorial role.
The conflict is recorded and reassignment requested without influencing the choice of replacement editor. Editors disclose conflicts and recuse before accessing further confidential material.
Manuscripts written by an editor
- A submission from an editor, board member, reviewer, publisher employee or close collaborator is reassigned to an uninvolved editor.
- Reviewer selection for that manuscript is made by the uninvolved editor, and the author-editor takes no part in it.
- Reviewer identities and confidential deliberations are not accessible to the author-editor.
- The decision is made by an editor without a relevant conflict.
- Editorial position, article processing charge payment, institutional relationship or personal connection does not affect the outcome.
The same rule governs guest editors of any collection: a guest editor does not decide their own submissions, does not select conflicted reviewers and cannot override the designated JAR editor. Guest editor status confers no advantage for that person's own work.

51 members · 26 countriesListed alphabetically by family name. Each record gives the member's current department and institution, the country of that institution, their agronomic domain, and their ORCID iD where the registry holds one. Institution and country are stated as verified against the member's public record; where a stored value had been superseded by a later appointment, the current post is shown.

Board membership is by invitation on the basis of subject expertise and publication record. Editors keep their profile and declared interests current; the journal reviews the record when an appointment is made and when a member's affiliation changes.
Expertise across the board
Against the published recordEach member is assigned to the domain their published research sits in. The right column is the number of JAR's 76 published articles in the matching subject cluster, so the board's composition can be read against what the journal actually publishes.
| Agronomic domain | Board members | Articles |
|---|---|---|
| Crop production and cultivar performance | 11 | 9 |
| Agricultural systems, climate and land use | 11 | 9 |
| Soil fertility and nutrient management | 8 | 14 |
| Plant genetics, breeding and stress physiology | 8 | 6 |
| Precision agriculture and farm engineering | 5 | 8 |
| Adjacent and supporting sciences | 4 | — |
| Soil biology, biofertilizers and rapid spectroscopy | 2 | 15 |
| Crop protection and plant pathology | 2 | 15 |
Where a manuscript needs expertise the board does not hold, the handling editor invites external reviewers with that competence; reviewer selection is not limited to the board.
Submitting to the Journal of Agronomy Research? Read the aims and scope first to confirm fit, then follow the author instructions. Manuscripts are assessed for scope, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and research integrity.
