Special Issues
Special Issues in the Journal of Agronomy Research are bounded thematic collections governed by the journal’s normal editorial, peer-review and research-integrity requirements.
Only a collection with verified dates, scope, article types and named editorial oversight is displayed as open for submissions.
Collection status record
Status is determined from appointment, date and workflow evidence—not from an old CMS label.
Current status
No Special Issue is currently verified as accepting submissions. General submissions remain available through the journal’s standard submission route.
Why no legacy call is shown as active
Two older CMS records lack a complete, current evidence set for active dates, Guest Editor appointment, fee treatment and governance. They are retained for audit but are not presented as open calls.
Expiry is a status, not a design problem
An old call is not kept “ongoing” to imply activity. A verified record may later be published as active, closed, completed or cancelled with its dates and articles preserved.
Release gate for every Special Issue
A Special Issue may be presented as active only after its scope, dates, article types, APC treatment and named Guest Editor appointment, affiliation and conflict disclosures have been verified.
Scholarly purpose
Required recordA focused agronomic rationale, bounded scope and relationship to JAR’s crops–soils–systems remit.
Fail conditionBroad promotional theme, product campaign or subject without an agronomic outcome.
Editorial oversight
Required recordNamed Guest Editor, current affiliation, relevant expertise, identity evidence and conflict disclosures.
Fail condition“To be confirmed”, unverifiable appointment or unmanaged self-interest.
Dates and workflow
Required recordOpening date, deadline, status, accepted article types, submission route and extension rule.
Fail conditionNo date, artificial deadline or guaranteed acceptance/publication time.
Financial terms
Required recordAPC treatment consistent with the approved journal schedule and independent of review.
Fail conditionSpecial price that contradicts the APC page or payment-linked editorial advantage.
Editorial safeguards
Special Issue manuscripts receive the same scope, ethics, confidentiality and peer-review protections as other JAR submissions.
Proposal assessment
The Editor-in-Chief or designated JAR editor assesses scientific fit, feasibility, Guest Editor suitability and conflicts before a call is approved.
Independent review
Guest Editors do not select conflicted reviewers, handle their own submissions or decide on manuscripts where independence is compromised.
Final authority
A designated JAR editor retains oversight and may reassign a manuscript, reject a recommendation or close a collection for integrity or operational reasons.
Record continuity
Status changes, extensions, cancellations and completed articles are dated. Closed calls are not presented as current opportunities.
Propose a Special Issue
A proposal should identify the precise agronomic question, expected contribution, boundaries, proposed dates and how the collection differs from the journal’s general call.

- Scope, exclusions and anticipated article types
- Guest Editor CV, affiliation, expertise and ORCID where available
- Conflicts, related projects and any commercial relationships
- Recruitment approach and reviewer pool
- Opening, closing and completion dates
Before a call can open
The journal verifies the appointment, scope, dates, submission route, fee treatment and integrity safeguards. A proposal is not an acceptance commitment, and Guest Editor status confers no advantage for the person’s own work.
