Call for Papers
The Journal of Organ Transplantation welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams working across transplantation.
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.
CURRENT INTEREST
Subjects of current interest
Work on any subject within the journal’s remit is welcome. The groupings below describe where the editors would particularly like to see more submissions; they neither narrow the remit nor rank what arrives.
THE GRAFT AND THE IMMUNE RESPONSE
Histocompatibility and antibody, acute and chronic rejection, tolerance and its induction, immunosuppressive regimens and their pharmacology and toxicity, immune monitoring and biomarkers, and the interpretation of graft biopsies.
THE ORGAN BEFORE IMPLANTATION
Donor evaluation and management, donor safety and long-term donor outcomes, organ recovery, static cold storage and machine perfusion, preservation solutions, ischemia and reperfusion injury, viability assessment and organ reconditioning.
LIFE WITH A GRAFT, AND THE SYSTEM AROUND IT
Surveillance and diagnosis after transplantation, infection and malignancy, comorbidity, adherence and quality of life, pediatric transplantation, re-transplantation, allocation and waiting-list policy, equity of access, and the ethics, law and economics of donation.

FORMATS
Accepted formats
The journal accepts the eight formats below. The preparation requirements for each are on Instructions for Authors.
- Original Research / Research Articles — Full-length studies reporting new findings.
- Review Articles, Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses — Syntheses of a defined question, narrative or systematic, with or without quantitative pooling.
- Short Communications / Brief Reports — Brief reports of preliminary findings, urgent observations or technical innovations.
- Case Reports / Case Series — Single cases or short series with a clear teaching point.
- Editorials, Commentaries, Perspectives and Opinions — Argued positions on a question in transplantation, with the evidence they rest on.
- Letters to the Editor — Short correspondence, including comment on work the journal has published.
- Technical Notes / Methodology Papers — Surgical techniques, laboratory methods and measurement procedures.
- Protocols — Planned studies described in full before their results are known.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
How a submission is handled
Every manuscript follows the same route, and the criteria are the same for every author.
REVIEW
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
DECISIONS AND TERMS
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships and editorial or reviewing roles.
Accepted articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0 with a Crossref DOI. The article processing charge is payable after acceptance and is published in full on Article Processing Charges.

Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
